The Santa Monica Pier is all set to welcome 2022, with a virtual show and countdown displayed in lights on the Santa Monica Ferris Wheel.

The new year is here and the Santa Monica Pier invites you to ring into the new year with the West coast’s biggest countdown to 2022.

The pier invites the public to join them in counting down to the new year with a show on the world-renowned Ferris Wheel, which will display the “West Coast New Year’s Eve Countdown 2022” on The Pacific Wheel.”

People can enjoy the show from the bluff at Pacific Palisades. The public can also be part of the show in the comfort of their homes as there is a facility for online streaming. Pacific Park’s YouTube Channel will stream the show live on their platform.

Despite the show taking place at 11:30, the Pier park will be closed to guests at 10 p.m. on both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. There will be no fireworks shows.

The 90-foot tall prestigious Ferris wheel will be enhanced With over 174,000 lights and will present one of the most beautiful views to kick start a new year. The show will present a graceful display of lights and patterns of different hues, including a 60-second countdown to ring in 2022. 

After That the wheel will display “Happy New Year” in 16 different languages including Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Portuguese, and Japanese. At 11:59 PM the giant numbers will count down from 60 seconds till midnight where a dashing display of hues and light will wish everyone a colorful and fantastic year ahead.

The show will last until around 1 a.m., January 1, 2022.

Every year Pacific Park amuses its audience with this bright and fun light program displayed on the canvas of the Pacific Wheel towering at a height of 130 feet from sea level. The dazzling light performances run all night, and the special New Year’s Eve programs will kick start around 11:30 PM with fun designs and messages. The new year countdown at Santa Monica pier has become a tradition and every year lots of people are eagerly waiting to participate in the event.

 The Prestigious Pacific Wheel 

The pacific wheel is one of the iconic views in the Santamonica pier. It is the world’s only solar-powered Ferris wheel and gives the viewers beautiful and panoramic views of Southern California.

Pacific Park was opened on May 26, 1996. The two-acre amusement Park carries the seven-acre Pier with its nine-story tall Pacific Wheel Ferris. To add to the celebration of its 20th anniversary, Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier introduced a lighting package on the Ferris wheel in 2016. 

Standing 130 feet above the Pacific Ocean, about nine stories tall, the nearly $1 million lighting system allows the Park to display a fantastic blast of visual treats every evening. New Year’s eve, has special live performances and holiday spirit and thus is an important moment to all the people out there. It is indeed a once-a-year event and the organizers pay attention to detail, to make it memorable and special each year. 

You can also enjoy the show by having dinner at the finest restaurants in and around Santa Monica or  staying in a beachfront hotel by Santa Monica State Beach, 

There are no fireworks displays or shows planned by the Santa Monica Pier or Beach. Although there have been many photos circulated of rockets showering sparks over the beach and pier, none of these displays is associated with the new year event.

The streets and exits for Santa Monica may become congested due to the heavy rush expected. So if you are coming by car, there will be an issue with car parking. Consider taking the Metro to Santa Monica and party safely.

As there are threats from the omicron variant everyone is expected to wear properly covered masks in the crowd.
