All of MacOS Ventura's Best New Features

Say goodbye to Monterey and hello to MacOS Ventura. Apple’s most recent operating system, also referred to as MacOS 13, is officially accessible for download. The most recent version includes changes to Messages, Safari, the Mail app, and Continuity, among other features, to provide desktops and laptops access to a variety of new features. Below, we’ve listed all the key features available with MacOS Ventura and tell you how to obtain it.

Click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen to start the software download. Click System Preferences > Software Update > Update Now after that (or Upgrade Now). The download and installation of MacOS Ventura will start on your Mac.

To the new stuff now. There are more changes and new features than those we’ve included here. Read more about this here.

Shared Picture Library on iCloud

For a complete list of the new features on iPhone and iPad, see our feature roundup for iOS 16 and iPadOS 16.

You want to make a backup of your Mac before installing MacOS Ventura. There are two ways to accomplish this: Use Time Machine to make a backup of your files or iCloud to store them. Step-by-step directions for both techniques may be found in Apple’s support article.

You may now share an assortment of photos with up to five other people in a shared iCloud library rather than manually emailing them to a group chat or via AirDrop. You can choose to share specific content that you want added automatically based on people in the images, the date they were taken, or even the proximity—for example, if you wanted to share all your vacation photos with your travelling companions. You can also share all the photos and videos in your library. Anybody with access to the shared library can edit, remove, and favourite photographs; these changes will sync across all devices.

Characteristics of Helpful Messages

All of us have sent regretful SMS. You can edit messages sent using MacOS Ventura up to 15 minutes after sending them, and you can delete them up to two minutes afterwards. Moreover, deleted texts can be recovered for up to 30 days. Those who have read receipts can designate a communication as unread in the meantime, which should lessen the urgency to reply immediately away. These capabilities are also available on iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 because Messages is supported by a large number of Apple devices.

SharePlay is now accessible via Messages as well. Instead of FaceTime, you can use a group chat to watch a movie or listen to music with your loved ones. Since everyone has access to the same playback controls, the content is always up to date.

Live Subtitles

Macs equipped with an M-series chip will now have Live Captions available. Automatic audio transcription is a function that is currently in beta and can be used for media, calls, and in-person interactions. You can type what you want to say using Type to Speak when utilising Live Captions during a call on a Mac and have your response read aloud in real time for other participants. With the addition of speaker attribution, the feature will also function in the FaceTime application.

App Features for Mail

The native MacOS Mail app has undergone some usability improvements to compete with Gmail and other cutting-edge email applications. Users of Ventura can now cancel emails that have already been sent and schedule emails to be sent at a later time. You’ll get reminders to check up on emails you sent a few days ago that haven’t heard back. Also, if you sent an email but failed to include a file attachment or CC someone, you’ll receive a warning. Lastly, it’s more practical to search your inbox. Before you even start typing, Mail’s search bar will display a list of your most recent contacts, documents, photographs, and emails when you click on it.
