A former Tokyo Olympics executive arrested for the payment of bribes and released on bail
A former Tokyo Olympics as well as Paralympics executive of the organizing committee Haruyuki Takahashi, who’s being tried for allegedly accepting payments in connection with the Olympic and Paralympic sports and was released on bail on Monday.
Takahashi Tahashi, 78, had been freed from Tokyo Detention House after posting the sum of Y=80 million ($603,000) on bail.

The Tokyo District Court had decided earlier on Monday to issue bail to Takahashi who was repeatedly indicted on charges of accepting bribes related to the Games.

In the escalating scandal that has damaged the image of last season’s Olympics as well as Paralympics, the 78-year-old athlete has been accused of accepting bribes via five different avenues in exchange for helping businesses be chosen as sponsors or marketing agents of the international event.
Takahashi was arrested first in August. 17 after he accepted the bribes of clothing retailer Aoki Holdings. He’s been held for over four months. The court ruled to grant bail, stating that there was no chance of him fleeing or damaging evidence.
The bribes that were allegedly paid to Takahashi who was an active member of the now defunct Tokyo Organizing Committee, total the sum of Y=198 million.
Takahashi has denied all allegations including the latest indictment he was indicted on in November. 9, arguing that they were genuine consulting fees, or that his ignorance of the funds, as per people who have been privy to the issue.
In the initial court hearing in the case of Aoki on Thursday, the former chairman as well as two other top officials admitted that they had received bribes from Takahashi.
