The Royal Treatment – Main Plot

Izzy (Isabelle), who is a hairdresser, had to give the money she had saved for traveling the world because of a fire in her salon. Later The prince of Lavania, Prince Thomas, asks his assistant Walter to schedule a haircut, but he accidentally ends up calling up Izzy’s salon and tells her that she will be paid $500 for the haircut. Izzy suddenly agrees and when cutting his hair, a housekeeper comes with tea and accidentally drops it.

Izzy gets upset at how badly the housekeeper is treated there and leaves the palace without finishing the haircut. She returns to the salon, but the Prince comes in to finish the haircut. They have a talk and finally, Izzy agrees to walk the prince back to the metro and both of them share a fun night.

Prince Thomas’s assistant recommends Izzy’s salon for doing the makeup. Her salon agrees and they travel to Lavania. The mother of Thomas’ fiancee Lauren, observes that Thomas and Izzy are getting too close. When a photo of them ends up in the papers, Izzy is asked to leave. Now It is revealed that the reason why the King and Queen want Thomas to marry Lauren is that her family could help them get out of debt.

The Royal Treatment Review

The film portrays a usually seen love story and the storyline is also marked with inconsistencies. Also, the characters seem caricaturish, and there seems to be no real conflict in the love story that is tiringly predictable. But what works in the movie is the perfect casting. Both the leading stars Mena Massoud (best known for playing Aladdin) and Laura Marano ( best known for A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish, Disney’s Austin & Ally, The Perfect Date) have done fabulous jobs. Both the prince and the hairdresser are genuinely hilarious and they lean into goofy jokes and physical comedy that helps to offset some of the film’s corniness. The chemistry between the pair is awesome as well as heart-melting.

The background track by John R. Graham is also blissful and fits in snugly with the storyline. Visuals are beautifully captured and the film has many colorful and spectacular frames.

But the movie delivers a story that feels fresh and heartfelt, offering a happy ending and the kind of joyous distraction where we can escape from the harsh realities of the external world. It is a feel-good movie and thus worth watching in these times.

The Filming happened amidst the covid threats in both Dunedin and Oamaru in New Zealand. The Film production involved just 30 actors, 100 extras, and a sizable film crew. But the pandemic has not affected the quality of filming and locations and the crew certainly overcame this challenge.
