CHICAGO Bulls — After announcing on Twitter that he was deleting his social media apps in order to focus on his mental health, Bulls center Andre Drummond was excused from the team’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night. The game ended in a 121-110 loss for the Bulls.
According to the Bulls, Drummond’s participation in the game has been ruled out due to personal concerns. Drummond may be able to travel with the team to play the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night, according to the team’s head coach Billy Donovan, who expressed optimism about this prospect.
Donovan remarked that despite the fact that we come here to play games, there is also a human side and a personal side to every one of these individuals. “And it makes you feel horrible whenever you hear that anyone else is going through anything similar. I have the impression that you make an effort to provide as much assistance as you can.”
Drummond, who is now 29 years old, is participating in his debut season with the Chicago Bulls and his 11th season overall in the NBA. On Tuesday, the two-time All-Star wrote that he was getting rid of all of his applications.
Drummond had said that it was “time to focus on my mental wellness.” If you, too, are having issues with your mental health, know that you are not alone and that it is acceptable to get assistance.
As a reserve player with the Bulls, Drummond has appeared in 62 games and is averaging 6.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. During Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers, in which they lost 124-112, he scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
“Sometimes when people look at these guys and they see them play and they see these NBA players, stars, all this other stuff, and all the other things that come with it that, oh, their life must be just absolutely wonderful,” Donovan said. “They must have everything they could ever want.” “No, they aren’t. We’re all faulty. We are all faced with difficulties. Everyone has problems and obstacles in their lives that they must overcome.
DeMar DeRozan, a great player for the Bulls who have been vocal about his own struggles with depression and other mental health challenges, has stated that he intends to give Andre Drummond the space he needs while also letting his teammate know that he is there for him.
This is really a fun game for us. This is a game that we play. “I think everyone can agree that this game has treated us well,” DeRozan added. “But, in the end, you have no choice but to be concerned with and attentive to yourself first and foremost.”
Because of the openness with which DeRozan discusses his problems, he has had numerous interactions with others who have conveyed their appreciation for his willingness to discuss his mental health. Donovan stated that during this season he was in Toronto and was approached by a man who wanted to thank DeRozan. The player then spent some time with the man after the man had approached him.
DeRozan stated that “moments like that are larger to me than playing a basketball game, a payday, I mean, you name it, man.” “There’s just something about it that speaks volumes when someone’s story can assist someone else, and when I really saw it, it hit me in a new kind of way,” she said. “There’s just something about it that says volumes when someone’s experience can help someone else.”
“It’s nothing but appreciation, and it just shows a different kind of empathy that I wish we all had,” she said. “It’s nothing but appreciation.”
