Belfiore headed Windows Phone, Windows 10 and Office in a career that spanned three decades.

Microsoft Corporate Vice President Joe Belfiore to leave after 32 years at Microsoft. Belfiore has held various positions at Microsoft and is now being named the CVP for Office. The plans for his retirement were made public inside an internal email addressed at the request of staff (via ZDNet) and later made public via Twitter.

Belfiore will serve as an advisor to senior level and coach who will assist with the transition from summer 2023 to. This group, known as the Office Group, will be led by CVP Ales Holecek who has been the head of the department alongside Belfiore over many years, as well as CVP Sumit Chauhan who will be promoted from the position of director for Office Organization.

He led the division from 2009 until 2013, when Microsoft announced its purchase of Nokia. Belfiore was later promoted to head Microsoft’s Windows 10 team for almost five years.

In 2018, Belfiore shifted into a new position as the head of his Essential Products Group, which included Windows 10, Microsoft Edge, Surface software, and various mobile applications. Belfiore said on Twitter that he would spend more moments with his children after his resignation from Microsoft. In the corporate world, sometimes it is believed that”spend time with your family” or “spend longer with your family” can mean an unforced departure. It doesn’t seem to be the case with this particular situation. ZDNet stated that Belfiore’s departure was a personal choice as well as that the Office team’s goals will be the same following his departure.

Belfiore took an absence of an entire year to be with family. Then he returned to work at Microsoft until 2020, before taking another leave in order to go on a trip with family.
