In December 2021, Netflix announced a live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho. It is produced by Akira Morii at Robot Communications, which is a Japanese production studio that worked on the live-action Assassination Classroom and Parasyte films.

Yu Yu Hakusho is an adventure supernatural manga series written by manga artist Yoshihiro Togashi. It is published by Shueisha. An anime series of manga was adapted by Pierrot studio in 1992. It had about 112 episodes. Netflix announced the live-action adaptation of the classic Shonen series in December 2020.
Yu Yu Hakusho is the story of a teenage boy named Yusuke Urameshi who is killed by a car when attempting to save a child’s life. His ghost is greeted by a woman called Botan, who introduces herself as the pilot of River Styx. She carries souls to the underworld or spirit world., where they will be judged afterlife.
A situation arises in which Yusuke has no place in heaven or hell. Thus the son of the underdog gives Yusuke a chance to return to his older body, by a series of tests. Yusuke takes his chance and wins the given tests with the help of his friends Keiko Yukimura and Kazuma Kuwabara.
