After the 2023-24 season, Wheel of Fortune presenter Pat Sajak will step down from the role he has held for the past four decades.

“Well, it looks like the moment has arrived. Sajak announced his decision in a statement released on Monday. “I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last,” Sajak stated. “I’ll have more to say in the coming months, but let’s just say that it’s been an amazing trip so far. Many, many thanks to every one of you.

Wheel of Fortune will enter a new era with the departure of host Pat Sajak, who is 76 years old and will continue to work for the show behind the scenes as a consultant for the next three years after departing his on-camera job. Since the game show’s first broadcast in 1983, he has presided over the syndication of it, and he also presided over the daytime broadcast of it on NBC between the years 1981 and 1989. Together with Vanna White, he is one of the longest-running hosts of any television game show in the history of the medium.

Suzanne Prete, senior vice president of game shows at Sony Pictures Television, which is responsible for producing Wheel of Fortune, stated that “As the host of Wheel of Fortune, Pat has entertained millions of viewers across the United States for 40 incredible years.” “We would want to express how appreciative and happy we are to have had Pat as our host for all of these years, and we are looking forward to commemorating his remarkable career over the forthcoming season. Following the conclusion of his final year as host of the show, Pat has graciously agreed to be involved with Wheel of Fortune in some capacity for the next three years, and all of us at the show couldn’t be happier about this development.

When the inventor of Wheel of Fortune offered Sajak the position of the host of the NBC daytime version of the game show in 1981, Sajak was working as a weatherman at KNBC in Los Angeles at the time. White eventually joined him after that, and in 1983, the two of them became the hosts of the evening version of the syndicated Wheel show. Better than 9 million people tune in each and every day to watch this show, making it consistently one of the most popular on all of broadcast television. Alongside the host of Jeopardy!, Alex Trebek, Sajak was presented with a lifetime achievement award at the 2011 Daytime Emmys. These honors bring Sajak’s total number of Daytime Emmy Awards for outstanding game show host to four.

In addition, Sajak and White are the hosts of the primetime edition of ABC’s Wheel of Fortune titled Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, which will launch its fourth season in the autumn.

There is currently no timetable for the selection of a new host.
