India to become a major exporter of telecom technology in three years
India has proven its worth with its 4G/5G technology stack, and is poised to become a major exporter of telecom technology in the next three-years, Communication Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Saturday.
Vaishnaw addressed the Economic Times Global Business Summit 2023 and ruled out any plans for privatization of the huge national transporter.
On October 1, 2022, 5G services went live. He pointed out that they were rolled out in more than 200 cities within 100 days.
Industry leaders around the globe have appreciated the speed of the rollout and it was described by many international forums as the fastest deployment anywhere in the world, the Minister stated.

Vaishnaw spoke out about the large-scale solutions that are being tested across India stack platforms, including payments, healthcare, and identity.

Each platform was powerful, but when combined they become a dynamic force capable of solving “any major problem” in the world.
The Minister stated that India is poised to become a major exporter of telecom technology in the next three-years.

Technology 4G/5G
Vaishnaw spoke out about India’s rapid progress in creating its own 4G/5G technology stack.
“The stack is now available. He said that it was first tested for 1,000,000 simultaneous calls, then for five million and now for 10,000,000 simultaneous calls. It was a “phenomenal” success, he said.
He said that at least 9-10 countries are interested in trying it.
The Minister presented key initiatives from his three ministries, Telecom, IT, and Railways.
He stated that the Railways’ main focus was to transform passenger experiences.

He stated that the railways were renovating stations and terminals using a futuristic design blueprint. This creates new urban spaces and preserves rich heritage.
Minister provided an overview of the progress made on the bullet train project.
The Minister responded to a question about private freight rail corridors.
Vaishnaw stated that in a country with 1.35 billion people, 8 billion of them move each year on Railways every year, it was prudent to take the lessons from others and keep them within the government.
Today, we add close to 4,500km of network each year. That’s 12 km per day. He stated that we must increase the capacity so that foodgrains, coal, small parcels and all kinds of cargo can be transported.
Rail growth
Railways have been losing market share for 50-60 years. But now they are starting to regain some of their lost market share.
“The lowest point was 27%. This was 28% last year, but we’re now at 29-29.5 percent this year. In the next 2-3 years, the Railways will be able to achieve a 35% market share.
“The country will have enough… Road is good up to 250km, railway is ideal for 250-1000 km. The Minister stated that air travel over 1,000 kilometers will be the best mode.
