What is “Encanto” About?
Encanto is a computer-animated musical fantasy comedy film. The movie is set in the beautiful mountains of Colombia. In Casa Madrigal, everything and everyone is “exceptional, fantastical, and magical.”
The Madrigals (an extraordinary family) are nestled in a magical place called the Encanto, which has blessed every child in the family with magical abilities. Everyone except one child, Mirabel, has the gift of super strength or special powers.
The story starts with Abuela Alma narrating the culture of the town and the casita featured in the film that houses the family. The magical house has stairs and floors that come alive, moving ground tiles that bring characters their shoes and kitchen tiles animatedly pouring cups of coffee for family members
The only sibling without a gift, discovers danger looming around the family’s hidden mountain home. When their charming Colombian town is threatened, this “ordinary” child realizes that she may be the only one able to protect her gifted Madrigals.
The Encanto comes packed with wonderful songs, vibrant animation, and picturesque colors. The story addresses themes of family, expectations, and generational trauma. The film is fun-packed and brings warmth and positivity into your mind.
The Encanto voice cast is led by Stephanie Beatrix (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Mirabel and includes María Cecilia Botero, Wilmer Valderrama, Adassa, Diane Guerrero, John Leguizamo and more. Jared Bush, Byron Howard, and Charise Castro Smith are the directors with original music from Lin-Manuel Miranda.
