What is Snapchat

Snap Inc., earlier known as Snapchat Inc., is a very famous American multimedia instant messaging software and service. The most prominent and attractive feature of this messaging service is that the photographs and messages are generally only viewable for a brief period before they are unavailable to their recipients and it has been developed in that manner only. From its launch, it originally focused on person-to-person sharing of photos and now features users’ “Stories” of twenty-four hours along with “Discover” where brands can show off ad-supported short-form content. Thus the app is not just for fun!

Snap chat allows people to keep their photos in the “my eyes only” in which they can keep their photos in a password-protected space. Many celebrities are using this platform for sharing their snapshots and it has also limited use of end-to-end encryption, with plans to widen its use in the future.

Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown, all former Stanford University students, founded Snapchat. It’s become notable for symbolizing a new, mobile-first approach to social networking that emphasizes user interaction with virtual stickers and augmented reality objects. Snapchat had 293 million daily active users in July 2021, up 23% from the previous year. Each day, more than four billion Snaps are sent and received. Teenagers, especially below 16, are fans of Snapchat and because of that, there were talks about the concerns about privacy in this context.

What does S in Snapchat mean?

If you are receiving a chat in your Snapchat which says “S,”, “streak” or just “strx,” gives you the hint that the sender likes maintaining a streak with you. And if a person wants to start a streak with you it means that he is using it as sort of an excuse to talk to you. Maybe he would just want to be closer friends with you and hence has initiated a streak. So basically with streaks, you have the chance to have a conversation.

Receiving a Snap with an “S” drawn on means the same thing and the general etiquette is to respond on the day of receipt, even if just with an “S” of your own. Thus having a connection with the same person for three consecutive days starts a streak and some people enjoy keeping these going for a long time. The fire emoji and associated number beside a contact’s name indicate the length of an ongoing streak

The message “S/R” could be used for keeping streaks going and this abbreviation means “streaks and recent,”. It indicates that you have been contacted either for extending a streak or because you’re one of the sender’s most recent contacts. Thus maintaining and building streaks requires daily contributions from both sides, and the general etiquette is being responsive.
