Houston police Chief Troy Finner said at the news conference that a witness saw a man get out of his vehicle and fire multiple shots at the deputy, then drive off. He said that it seemed that Galloway even didn’t get the time to respond or defend himself. Finner believes an assault-type weapon was used in this shooting.

The suspect, who was simply described as a “younger Hispanic male,” was stopped by the deputy at the traffic stop in the 9100 block of Beechnut. He then left his white, four-door new model Toyota Avalon and fired “an assault-type weapon” multiple times at the deputy. Reports say that the suspect got out of his vehicle and immediately fired at Galloway multiple times before driving off.

Finner called this incident senseless and urged the suspect to do the right thing.

“Message to the suspect, the best thing you can do is turn yourself in peacefully,” Finner said.

“This has got to stop,” Harris County Precinct 5 Constable Ted Heap said during a news conference at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Centre. He said that these types of incidents are now becoming regular and it is high time to stop these crimes. He added that he doesn’t want to raise his family or grandchildren in a county where these types of crimes are rampant

Corporal Charles Galloway- The Mentor of Many
