At a game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets on Sunday at Acrisure Stadium, a football fan fell from an escalator and died.

The unidentified man reportedly fell nearly 40 feet inside the stadium near Gate C shortly after the Steelers’ 24-20 defeat of the Jets. Shortly after his fall, EMS and the Pittsburgh Police Department arrived at the scene. The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to the Pittsburgh Public Safety Department, but he later passed away from his injuries.

The violent crime unit of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police is looking into the incident. The statement reads, “An adult male fell from an escalator around 4:45 p.m. on October 2nd, and Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS and Pittsburgh Bureau of Police within Acrisure Stadium responded.”He was treated on the spot by paramedics and taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He passed away from his injuries later.

Shortly after the fan passed away, Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten issued a statement on the team’s behalf.WXPI Channel 11 News obtained the statement. Lauten stated, “We are aware of an unfortunate incident that occurred today inside Acrisure Stadium.”We are assisting the local authorities in their investigation and working with them. The family of the guest is in our thoughts and prayers.
