When Tyler Perry announced Madea’s retirement in 2019, fans were disappointed as they would never see this funny character again. But in 2021, the director changed his mind and announced that we’ll see the return of Madea in the 12th edition of the show, A Madea Homecoming. Honestly, an iconic character like Madea can never really retire.
Terry Perry later spoke about the change of his mind. He said that his reason for bringing Madea back was because after considering the struggle of the people in the pandemic world situation, he realized that people need more joy and laughter in their lives. And, who other than Madea can cheer people?
“I was done with Madea, completely done with it,” Perry said. “But as I’ve been looking at the state of the world — and I finished a tour in January, just before the pandemic started to break in the country — and the amount of joy and laughter that it brought to so many people, that’s what I think is missing. We need that laughter and that joy.
Now the team has announced an official release date and we are close to seeing her back!

What to expect on A Madea Homecoming
Terry Perry will write, direct and star in A Madea Homecoming, the 12th installment in the Madea cinematic universe. The latest chapter from the commercially successful Film franchise centers around the character’s great-grandson’s college graduation. However, the celebratory moments turn into unexpected moments as some hidden secrets and family drama threaten to destroy the happy reunion.
Neither the creator nor Netflix has given hints about the said “hidden secrets” and “family drama,”. But the filmmaker made a statement that the new installation will involve an LGBTQ+ storyline. Terry Perry hopes that the inclusion of the stereotyped characters will convey a social message and will encourage audiences to be more inclusive.
