After attempting to stop a group of teenagers from stealing beer, a worker at a liquor store in Highland Park was struck in the head by a scooter and later died, according to police.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to an incident that took place at Tony’s Market near the intersection of Figueroa Street and E. Avenue 40 just before 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Steven Reyes, 69, the victim, tried to stop four teenagers from stealing a case of beer from a store. According to the LAPD, one of the suspects struck Reyes in the head with a scooter as he ran after the group. Reyes was admitted to the hospital, where he passed away later.

The victim’s daughter, Nelle Reyes, claimed that her father came to the United States from the Philippines in search of a better life. She claimed that her father’s actions were in line with who he was: a diligent worker with a constant desire to act ethically. To assist the victim’s family, a GoFundMe page has been established.

“He met his wife and started a family in Los Angeles. The GoFundMe page stated, “He is a son, a father, a brother, a good friend, and a hard worker.”Steven had a kind heart, cared about everyone, and always ensured the safety of his family.

The four suspects are being sought by the LAPD. The death of Reyes is comparable to another calamity that occurred in the Los Angeles region within the past week.

Teenagers who were attempting to rob a wig shop owned by a man in the Fashion District were pursued on Saturday. He was killed by stabbing him. They have been apprehended.
