‘Futurama’ Revival
After it signed off in 2013, after 10 years Futurama has been revived for a 20-episode run on Hulu by creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen.
In a statement, Cohen said: “I’m thrilled to have another chance to think about the future … or anything other than the present,” as Groening added: “It’s a true honour to announce the triumphant return of Futurama one more time before we get cancelled abruptly again.”
Hulu will be the third platform for the animated comedy after Fox and Comedy Central. The series will return to production this month itself as per the reports.
Is Futurama back?
Futurama fans are excited by the news of the revival of Futurama. It is expected that the new episodes of the show will be ready for a 2023 premiere.
How many times has Futurama been cancelled?
The famous science fiction series Futurama has only been cancelled twice. FOX cancelled Futurama after four seasons as they kept moving it around and they supported The Simpsons more than the show. Years later, in the 7th season, without giving a specific reason, Comedy Central opted not to renew the show for an 8th season.

Why is John DiMaggio not in Futurama?
John DiMaggio, who is behind the voice of Bender who is a wise-cracking robot with “shiny metal ass,” is not in the new Futurama. He has spoken out following news that he would not return for Hulu’s new Futurama. He had voiced Bender since the series premiere episode “Space Pilot 3000” in 1999.
The original stars of the show Billy West (Fry), Katey Sagal (Leela), Tress MacNeille, Lauren Tom, Maurice LaMarche, David Herman and Phil LaMarr will return in the revival episodes of the Hulu Futurama.
Why Are Fans Frustrated By Recasting?
Futurama fans are disappointed by the change of DiMaggio. After the angry storm of fans in social media, he addressed the vocal fans directly after retweeting many responses of angered fans. After thanking his fans for their enormous support and concerns following the new announcement, he stated that he appreciated their concern over the issue. He also reassured fans that he will keep them informed about the developments of the situation and added Bender’s iconic “Cheese it!” catchphrase with the hashtag “#bendergate” to finish his response.
