After being kept in the competition by the bell that said “Ding Dong Keep It On” during “New York Night,” Medusa was determined to show that she deserved to be there for the conclusion of “The Masked Singer” on Wednesday night. She wrested control of the competition away from Gargoyle and Mantis in the “Battle of the Saved.” Next, the singer with the snake-like head sang her way through the “Quarter Finals (British Invasion Night)” and eliminated California Roll in the “Semi-Finals,” the group that had previously beaten her.
Macaw was the only contestant left standing between Medusa and the Golden Mask trophy, and she sang “Elastic Heart” by Sia and “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance to impress the judges, which included Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, and Nicole Scherzinger. Macaw was the last contestant left standing. She added after the latter, “This means so much to me, and the fact that I got to end my journey with my sister’s favorite song, and unfortunately she’s no longer here.” She was referring to the fact that her sister had passed away. It carries a lot of weight. I desperately required this for the sake of both my spirit and my soul. Therefore, many thanks”
At the end of the evening, it was revealed that Medusa was in fact the multi-platinum recording artist Bishop Briggs. The winner of Season 9 joined the ranks of previous winners such as T-Pain (Monster), Wayne Brady (Fox), Kandi Burruss (Night Angel), LeAnn Rimes (Sun), Nick Lachey (Piglet), Jewel (Queen of Hearts), Teyana Taylor (Firefly), and Amber Riley (Harp).
“This is the most crazy and awesome event that has ever happened! During the unmasked interview, the singer expressed her gratitude to the host, Nick Cannon, by saying, “Thank you so much!” “I would want to offer my most heartfelt congratulations to David Archuleta, who was a significant rival of mine in this competition. I exclaimed, “Oh no!” when I heard you during the soundcheck. Nevertheless, ‘Oh, sure!’ This experience has really been like something out of a dream, and the fact that I got to perform an emo anthem is very meaningful to me. When I was listening to David’s story, my initial reaction was, “Oh my gosh, look at us. A few teenagers with an emo aesthetic standing here on this platform, uncertain of who we are and unsure of whether or not we wanted to proceed. And we made it! This has been the most amazing event of my entire life.”
Panelists Grimes (Robin), Fergie (Jenny), Susan Boyle (Ken), and Bishop Briggs (Nicole) each submitted their best estimate as to who they felt was lurking inside Medusa prior to the unveiling of Bishop.
