A 19-year-old was killed on Friday in an incident that resulted in a gunshot in the Mall of America in Minnesota, the nation’s largest entertainment and shopping center, police said.

At about eight p.m (local time) police were able to hear gunshots from the first level of the Nordstrom store. When they entered the Nordstrom store, they discovered one person shot several times, Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges announced during a news briefing late on Friday evening. Police are working on identifying the suspect.

The measures to save lives were attempted but failed, Hodges said.

A person who was in the vicinity was also wounded by a bullet, but is expected to be okay.

The mall, which has been in operation for 30 years, is 10 miles to the south of downtown Minneapolis is home to more than 500 shops plus more than 50 restaurants, numerous attractions, and two hotels according to the owner.

Friday’s shooting occurred five months after the suspects shot gunshots at a packed retail store in the mall.

An initial investigation has revealed that there was a fight on Friday with a group of 5 to 9 people in Nordstrom. The surveillance footage of the store shows a man shooting a gun before shooting the victim in the head, Hodges claimed.

“We have an incident where if someone decides that they want to pull out a gun and shoot somebody with complete disrespect for human life, I still don’t know what we can do to stop that,” Hodges stated.

The motive behind the shooting is not clear.
